Arthur Stein is a Partner Advisor and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional serving Allworth’s Bethesda, Maryland, office. With more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, he specializes in investment management and retirement planning for federal employees and retirees.

Arthur brings a uniquely broad perspective to wealth planning, shaped by a diverse career that spans government, academia, and international work. Prior to entering the financial services industry, he managed the foreign aid program for the Government of Botswana, served as the first full-time staff economist for the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, and taught at Murdoch University in Australia. He then went on to establish Arthur Stein Financial, a Bethesda-based wealth management firm for federal employees that partnered with Allworth in 2026.

With a Master of Arts from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Arthur also earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University. He has held the CFP® professional designation since 1998, reflecting his longstanding commitment to comprehensive, client-focused planning. In his free time, Arthur enjoys hitting the pickleball court, watching movies and plays, reading, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Every client relationship begins with developing a deep understanding of the individual or family behind the finances: their goals, concerns, decision-making style, and overall financial picture. The initial conversations are designed to be thoughtful and collaborative, with no pressure or obligation. My goal is to understand what matters most, identify key opportunities or areas of concern, and determine whether there is strong alignment for a long-term advisory relationship.

From there, the process is tailored to each client’s priorities. Some prefer to begin with investment management, while others start with a comprehensive financial plan. For investment-focused clients, we conduct a detailed portfolio review that evaluates allocation, diversification, investment costs, tax efficiency, risk exposure, and how accounts work together across the full balance sheet. The goal is not simply to review investments in isolation, but to help ensure the portfolio aligns with the client’s broader objectives, income needs, and tolerance for risk.

For my clients seeking a more comprehensive planning engagement, we take a coordinated approach that integrates investments, retirement planning, tax strategy, estate considerations, and risk management into a cohesive long-term plan. Throughout the process, I believe clients should feel informed and empowered, with a clear understanding of both the strategy itself and the reasoning behind it.
