David Klaus is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and a Partner Advisor in Allworth’s Indianapolis, Indiana, office. A graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, with a BS in Chemical Engineering, David also captained their Division I men's basketball team. After college, he played professional basketball in Europe then worked in both the chemical and the pharmaceutical industries while earning an MBA from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. When asked about his advisory philosophy, the native of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, said: “My coach used to say, leave it better than you found it. I’ve carried that with me as I work with clients.” A member at 2nd Presbyterian Church, a youth sports coach, and a board member of the Financial Planning Association of Greater Indiana, David lives in Indianapolis with his high school-sweetheart wife, Melynne, and their three children, Carter, Elise, and Kendall.

Each client I meet with is truly unique, which makes the process of working together to construct their financial plan and strategizing on action steps a very rewarding experience. To craft a meaningful plan, I make it a point to thoroughly understand each client’s short-term and long-term goals. This allows me to assess their current financial situation and recommend targeted strategies, which we continually review and refine over time. Every interaction with my clients is a chance for me to become a better financial planner while helping them achieve better outcomes.

Additionally, it’s important to me that my clients feel comfortable reaching out during life’s transitions—whether that’s a new job, retirement, filing for Social Security or Medicare, a new child, or the loss of a loved one. I want my clients to know that, especially in times of need, they can count on me and my team to respond promptly and professionally. Above all, my goal is to help my clients achieve a life rich with family, relationships, purpose, and meaningful experiences. Working with my clients every day gives me incredible energy and purpose, and it’s an honor when a client says they consider me a trusted team member in helping them reach financial success.

I’m a chemical engineer by training, so I’ve always been very detail oriented (I’m the kind of person who loves a good spreadsheet). This analytical skillset has served me well over the last 17 years of my advising career, allowing me to provide my clients with clear, rational guidance in a world that can often feel irrational. After all, money can be a very emotional topic, and every client makes decisions based on their own beliefs and biases. I see it as my job to make sure they feel empowered to understand the potential impact of their financial decisions as well as the ‘why’ behind my recommended action steps. I learn from my clients every day as they share their own experiences and stories, just as I hope they learn from me through the objective advice I provide.
