CFP®, AIF®
Ricky Grunden is a Partner Advisor in Allworth’s Denton, Texas, office, bringing more than five decades of financial services experience to the firm. A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and Accredited Investment Fiduciary®, Ricky began his career in the insurance industry before joining a top-producing branch of a Houston-based broker-dealer. In 2001, driven by a desire to provide more comprehensive support to his clients, he founded Ricky Grunden Investment Advisors—later renamed Grunden Financial Advisory, Inc.—offering wealth management, financial planning, and investment management services. In 2026, Ricky and his team proudly partnered with Allworth, continuing his long-standing commitment to helping individuals and families make confident financial decisions.
Beyond his advisory work, Ricky has held several leadership roles in his community, including on the boards of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of Business, DATCU, and as School Board President of Denton Calvary Academy. Of all his accomplishments, he is most proud of marrying his wife, Marsha, in 1976 and raising their eight children. Longtime residents of Denton, the two began homeschooling their kids in 1982, graduating two from homeschool, two from Coram Deo Academy, and four from Denton Calvary Academy.
I believe that building a strong client relationship starts with truly understanding each person’s values, concerns, and objectives. That’s why my process begins with a pre-discovery meeting: a conversation designed to ensure there’s a good mutual fit and that I can add meaningful value to their financial life. From there, we move into a comprehensive discovery meeting, where I listen closely and gather the details needed to develop a personalized financial and investment plan.
Once the plan is built, I walk them through it using a clear, visual presentation that helps them see their full financial picture and understand each recommendation. I find this approach helps clients feel more engaged and confident in the path forward. After the plan is delivered, I stay closely involved, meeting quarterly until the strategy is fully implemented or until that level of support is no longer necessary. From there, we shift to a meeting schedule that fits the client’s comfort and needs, always making sure they feel supported at every step.
For me, this work has never just been a profession—it’s a calling. I’ve always seen financial advising as a way to care for and serve the people who choose to place their trust in us. That sense of responsibility runs deep, and I view what I do as something close to sacred. It’s about helping people make wise decisions that can shape not only their future, but also their family’s future for generations.
That’s why I’ve never thought about retiring, because this work is more than a job to me. It’s personal. Some have said, “But you get paid for what you do.” I smile and reply, “So does my pastor.” And just like a pastor, I see this work as a ministry. It’s an opportunity to walk alongside people through important and sometimes difficult moments in life, offering guidance, care, and steady support.
I’ve always viewed this work not just as a profession, but as a way to serve others with care, purpose, and integrity.
